Shulou(Shulou.com)06/03 Report--

This time, let's talk about the problem of data recovery in blob. Data recovery has always been a big deal, and it is easy to pack up and get out of here, so you must be careful again before deleting data.

However, no matter how to protect it, there will always be cases where data will be deleted by mistake. How to solve this kind of problem if it occurs in Azure?

For example, if we accidentally delete some blob in Azure, how can we recover the data?

Eighteen years ago, this was actually a very thorny problem, because if the data was deleted, it would have been deleted, but 18 years later, Microsoft introduced a feature called soft delete, which, as its name implies, soft deletion, which ensures that we can retrieve the data after deletion, which is a bit similar to the concept of the Recycle Bin.

It should be noted that this configuration is not enabled by default and needs to be enabled manually.

Let's see how to do it.

First of all, let's find a data protection in storage, where we can turn on the function of soft delete.

After opening it, we do two tests.

1. Delete blob directly, and then restore it

two。 After deleting the blob, upload a file with the same file name to overwrite it, and then try to restore it.

First, let's look at the first simple one.

After we upload the file, click Delete

If you want to restore after deletion, you can select show deleted blobs directly in container and you can see the deleted blob.

If you want to recover, it is also very simple. Right click and select undelete.

Let's take a look at the second scenario. What happens if we delete the file and upload a file with the same name to overwrite it? Can you still restore the previous files?

Let's take a look at the description .htm file that was deleted just now. We can see that after deleting this file, we can't see the snapshot.

But what if we upload a file with the same name to overwrite it?

You can see that there will be an extra thing called delete snapshot, so what if we want to recover the overwritten data? All you need is undelete, the snapshot.

So, in fact, there is no need to worry about being overwritten after the data is deleted. Azure will save these overwritten files as snapshots.

Soft delete is certainly not perfect. There are a few points to pay attention to.

Soft deletions do not provide overwrite protection for blob in the archive layer. If the blob in the archive layer is overwritten by a new blob in any layer, the overwritten blob will expire permanently.

Soft deletion applies only to blob (object) storage

Soft deletion does not apply to managed disks

Soft deletion applies to all storage tiers, including hot, cold, and archiving. However, soft deletion does not provide overwrite protection for blob in the archive layer

If you delete the entire account or container, all related blob will be permanently deleted

After soft deletion is turned off, unexpired soft delete data can still be accessed and restored.

In addition, if soft deletion is not enabled, or if the situation does not meet the conditions for using soft deletion, is there no way to retrieve the data if it is deleted?

In fact, it is not quite so. In fact, there is a probability that the backstage can help you get the data back, as long as the time is short enough and you are lucky enough.

So, if the data is really deleted unintentionally or maliciously, don't do anything at first, then bring case to the background immediately and ask them to help recover the data. This is the right way.
